Fees and gas
How base fee and priority fee behave, and what transactions cost.

Fee model#
- EIP-1559 is active. The base fee started at 1 gwei at genesis and, with mostly empty blocks, decayed to the protocol floor of 7 wei.
- The base fee rises by up to 12.5% per block when blocks use more than half of the 50,000,000 gas limit, and falls the same way when they use less.
eth_gasPricetracks the base fee (7 wei at idle). On 2026-09-27,eth_maxPriorityFeePerGassuggested 1 wei.- Transactions with a zero priority fee are accepted. Any tip you add goes to the validator.
- There is no block reward; the native supply is fixed at genesis.
Recommended settings#
Set maxFeePerGas comfortably above the base fee (twice the base fee handles sudden load), and a small or zero maxPriorityFeePerGas. Wallet and library defaults (for example a 1 gwei tip) also work and still cost almost nothing.
const block = await publicClient.getBlock();
const hash = await walletClient.sendTransaction({
account, to, value,
maxFeePerGas: block.baseFeePerGas! * 2n,
maxPriorityFeePerGas: 1n,
});Typical costs#
Approximate, in tZROAR, which has no monetary value.
| Operation | Gas | At 7 wei (base fee, no tip) | At 1 gwei tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Native transfer | 21,000 | 1.5 × 10⁻¹³ | 0.000021 |
| ERC-20 transfer | ~50,000 | 3.5 × 10⁻¹³ | ~0.00005 |
| Typical contract deployment | 1–3 million | ~2 × 10⁻¹¹ | ~0.003 |
| Entire block | 50,000,000 | 3.5 × 10⁻¹⁰ | 0.05 |
